The Ranting Chef does not get paid or receive any revenue from manufactures or retailers of products reviewed. I occasionally receive products that I am asked to use and see what I think. I take a look, try them out and tell you all about them.
The other day I received a box from the Companion Group. One of their brands, pizzacraft, is all about that glorious food.
The first item was the Pizza Cone Set. Pizza in a cone?!?!? Oh yeah, baby!
The six piece set comes with two cones, two stands, a cutter and edge crimper. Time to put it to work.
I bought some refrigerated pizza dough (the set comes with a recipe if you want to tackle it yourself). Lay or roll it out and place the cutter over the dough. Push down, cutting through the dough.
You should have enough for two.
Fold the dough over and seal the edges with your fingers, leaving the top open. Roll the crimper along the crimped edge.
Wipe the cones down with a bit of olive oil and then open up the pockets and pull them down over the cones. Extra dough? Breadsticks!
Place the cones on a cooking tray and bake.
Take the metal cones out and slide the crust off of them. Turn the crust over and put them into the holders.
Fill with sauce, pizza toppings and cheese. Bake until the cheese is bubbly. So good.
I decided to try a sweet choice with the cones. First I tried pie dough and it didn’t work (the picture above) but then switched to crescent roll sheets (from the refrigerated section). Same process as before with cutting, crimping, and baking.
These turned out perfectly.
I filled them with vanilla bean ice cream, apple pie filling and topped with caramel sauce.
I’ll take two!
The second item in the box was the Mini Deep-Dish Upside-Down Pizza Baking Set.
In the set comes two mini deep-dish pans and a cutter. The arrangement of these items does not constitute endorsement by the Walt Disney Corporation (but it really looks like it!!!!!).
I sprayed not only the inside of the pans, but around the outside edges.
For a normal pizza, you would start with some sauce, then the toppings in a reverse order. With breakfast pizza, I started with some cheese.
I pre-cooked eggs and bacon and then added it to the pans.
Spread out pizza dough and place the ring on it.
Push down and cut a nice ring.
Lay the dough over the pan so the crust drapes over the edge. The further over the edge, the deeper the crust will be on the pizza.
Bake the pizza.
Flip and serve.
My Take: Who doesn’t love pizza? I know I do and I am always looking for ways to make it a unique dish. Sure you can vary ingredients, but the basic pie seems to remain the same. The pizza craft Pizza Cone Set and Mini Deep-Dish Upside-Down Pizza Baking Set are great ways to flip pizza on it’s edge (or its head). The pizza cone is a great statement dish and a fun thing for the kids or grandkids to hold and eat. My head is spinning with additional ideas (using biscuit dough and BBQ pulled pork for instance). Creating mini deep dish pizzas at home is a lot easier than I thought it would be with the upside-down pans. It is so easy the dishes are useful from breakfast through dinner. The two pans served three hungry teenagers, so it should fit a typical family of four. Mix up your pizza game with the pizza craft Pizza Cone Set and Mini Deep-Dish Upside-Down Pizza Baking Set. Look for them here.
Wow, both of these kits look great. I’ve never seen pizza cones before but they look delicious. They remind me of calzone except not sealed. Nice idea to make the sweet dough and fill with icecream.

I love both of those. I have a habit of buying gadgets and not using them, but I think these will become my new favorites
