One evening when my youngest son was in fifth grade, we were out to dinner. While seated at the table, a girl walked by and said “hi” to him. He said “hi” back and she walked on. My wife asked how he knew the girl.
Answering in the typical boy way, he answered as minimalist as he could – “school”. My wife pressed the questioning and asked if she was in his class. He looked up from his dinner and replied “no, I’m in safety patrol with her.”
My wife and I looked at and asked each other at the same time, “Did you know he was in safety patrol?” Some parents we were! (He had joined early in the year and just never told us….really!)
Tomato Pork Loin Chops
Unlike my son’s life, whats going on in this dish is obvious.
A few ingredients.
Cooking the sauce.
Scrumptious!
Tomato Pork Loin Chops

2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
4 boneless pork loin chops, pounded thin
1 large onion, sliced

2 teaspoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds, crushed
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
2 fluid ounces water
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper to taste

Heat the oil in a skillet over high heat, and quickly brown the pork chops on both sides. Transfer chops to platter, and keep warm.
Reduce skillet heat to medium, and cook the onion until tender. Mix in the sugar, chili powder, fennel, red pepper flakes, and oregano. Stir in the tomato sauce, water, and Worcestershire sauce, and bring to a boil.

Sounds like a typical boy to me. I’m just grateful mine has his sister to report back. There’s definitely no comment on the girl front at the moment.
