The Ranting Chef does not get paid or receive any revenue from manufactures or retailers of products reviewed. I occasionally receive products that I am asked to use and see what I think. I take a look, try them out and tell you all about them.
One of the most fun booths I visited at the International Housewares Show was that of Holstein Housewares.
Why? They had a number of cool items like this Empanada Maker.
This is part of their fun treat maker line which includes other goodies like cake pops, doughnuts, waffles and similar items. Time to put it to work.
I made some empanada dough (look for a future post). Put a golf ball sized piece of it on a plastic form that comes with the Empanada Maker.
Flatten the dough to the size of the circle.
Fill with your favorite fillings (I made chicken and beef ones).
Fold the plastic over and pinch the sides together. This was both ingenious and very easy,
Ready for the maker.
The Empanada Maker has four places for empanadas. In seven to ten minutes, they are done.
A great appetizer, snack or lunch!
Time to expand the use and see how it does for desserts. A little refrigerated pie dough and cherry pie filling. Cut into circle, fill and fold.
They cook up just fine.
That delectable cherry filling showing a hint of what is inside.
Yum!
My Take: When I first looked at the Empanada Maker, I knew it would be a fun device to try out. It is a quick and easy way to make not only traditional empanadas, but great for some creative uses as well (look for a variety of lunches and desserts I have planned for this little guy). If you have a young chef in your life (child or grandchild), this is a safe and easy way for them to branch out into making some interesting dishes. You can purchase it here.
I love gadgets that are quick and easy to use.
