Product Review: IMUSA Fajita Griddle and Wearever Cast Lite Skillet

The Ranting Chef does not get paid or receive any revenue from manufactures or retailers of products reviewed. I occasionally receive products that I am asked to use and see what I think. I take a look, try them out and tell you all about them.

In a previous post, I told you about this great box I received from T-fal.

I showed you their Professional Series Cookwear, and now it is time for the two additional items they included in the box.

IMUSA is a leading manufacturer of cooking equipment within the international and Hispanic communities. They offer small appliances, gadgets, pots, pans and other items. What they sent me today is their Fajita and Tortilla griddle (better known in Mexico and Central America as a comal).

This 26.5×11″ comal is large enough to fit over two burners on your stove and is made with a non-stick coating so cooking and clean-up is easy.

The comal is advertised for fajitas, so who am I to argue. A little green and red pepper and some red onion. This griddle can handle it all. I didn’t need to add any oil (just some lime juice for flavor).

Later, I was able to push the cooked meat and veggies to the side, turn down that burner to low and fry up some burrito sized tortillas.

Several days later I used some fajita sized tortillas into beef chimi quesadillas. It was big enough to make five at once!

The other item that was sent was the Cast Lite 10″ skillet from WearEver. WearEver has been making cook wear for over a century pioneering technology throughout its history.

I have cooked with non-stick pans for many years now which makes cooking easy as you need less oil to cook and clean-up is easy. It works great for most cooking but there generally is one cooking task where it lacks compared to a nice cast iron skillet – searing. WearEver has a solution for me.

The WearEver Cast Lite is cast aluminum which is 50% lighter than cast iron and it is coated with a non-stick coating. The Cast Lite heats evenly like cast iron and retains the heat well, allowing a nice sear without the food sticking to the pan.

Look at the sear I was able to get on these scallops. You can’t do that with your typical non-stick pan.

The pan moves beyond searing to function as any other non-stick pan would. Here I am cooking some shallots in a wine sauce.

My Take: What’s not to love about this cookwear? The Fajita and Tortilla griddle is a perfect size for making dinner for a family and the Cast Lite 10″ skillet from WearEver is now my pan of choice for searing meat, fish or other items. The non-stick coating on each is great for cooking and even better for cleaning up. You can purchase both of these items online or at many of your local big box stores (such as Wal-Mart or Target).

I really tend to like the imusa products. I have a hand lemon juicer, and a few odds and ends. I don’t have a griddle though. May have to investigate this, cause imusa tends to run on the cheap side, cost wise.
