Product Review: Gourmia Electric Spiralizer

I received a box the other day from Gourmia.


Gourmia is known for well made kitchen electric products. Let’s see what was inside.


The brand new Electric Spiralizer! Included is the unit, a catch basin, three blades and a small recipe book.


The product is very compact (think smaller than a small drip coffee maker), so it won’t take up much counter or cabinet space.


This blade provides one wide strip.


This one is closer to a fettuccine size.


This smallest blade gives the smallest cut of all.


The blade cones easily drop into place.


The unit has a nice safety feature that it will not run unless the top is locked into place.


I decided to try all of these different veggies. Let’s see how it works.


Prep any veggies (like peeling carrots and cutting off stems) and push the end onto the Food Pusher. This helps to keep the vegetable (or fruit) from spinning. Insert the vegetable into the tube and turn it on. The blade spins and with constant downward pressure on the pusher, the food is peeled off into the  prep bowl.


This shows the output with the different blade sizes using a carrot. I found it worked pretty well with a carrot, but some of the carrots broke part of the way through spiralizing.


How about with a cucumber?


Using my finger as a guide you can see the different sizes here.


Following one of the recipes in the included book, I used the medium blade on some potatoes. Into the oven they go.


Here is a salad with carrots, cucumber and radish. The radish worked well, but as it is so small, it didn’t get much. Use a big radish if you are going to spiralize it.


Here is some zucchini and yellow squash with pesto sauce. Looks like noodles, doesn’t it? All veggie.


Those potatoes crippled up and were wonderful.

My Take: The Gourmia Electric Spiralizer is a great kitchen tool. It easily allows you to bring not only a unique style to common veggies, but allows you to create a low carb pasta substitute, a great salad and some fantastic potatoes with easy. The removable parts clean up easily in the dishwasher and the safety features make it safe to use in the family kitchen. The Electric Spiralizer is available online, at major retailers and here.

    Had a lot of trouble getting my medium size carrots to stick on food pusher. I cut the wide end across and flat. The carrot would not adhere to the pusher. Softer veggies like potatoes, squash and apples work well. It does have good safety features.
