Product Review: CDN Floating Thermometer

The Ranting Reviewer does not get paid or receive any revenue from manufacturers or retailers of products reviewed. I occasionally receive products that I am asked to use and see what I think. I take a look, try them out and tell you all about them.

Today we have a product from CDN, the manufacturer of thermometers and timers for both home and professional settings.

This little guy is their Floating Thermometer. Designed for sous vide, brewing beer or making custards and soups, this is the one thermometer that you want slipping into your pot.

First the face. This is not for hot oil or other uses where you blow by the boiling mark. Simmering is the sweet spot.

The probe is 1.5″ long. So you need to make sure you have enough liquid so it does not touch the bottom. Let’s test it out.

When first put in it can bob a bit and if bumped can turn. It is easily turned back over.

Starting water temp for the sous vide cooker.

I had this set for 135 degrees. Both the sous vide cooker and the Floating Thermometer agree on the water temp.

Making some turkey stock. This is the ideal thermometer for me to get it to and hold the correct temp.

My Take: Testing a thermometer is easy. #1 – Does it accurately reflect the correct temp? The CDN Floating Thermometer does just that. #2 – If advertised to float, does it? Yes. #3 – Is it sturdy? Also yes. Dishwasher safe and with a large bumper around the face, it will hold up in your kitchen. For those that need to maintain the right temp for liquids, this is a great choice. You can purchase it here.
