Product Review: Lifefactory 16oz Glass Bottle with Silicone Sleeve

The Ranting Reviewer does not get paid or receive any revenue from manufacturers or retailers of products reviewed. I occasionally receive products that I am asked to use and see what I think. I take a look, try them out and tell you all about them.

Recently I was at the International Housewares Show and my first stop was to talk to Lifefactory and to find out what they had to offer.

They walked me through their products (some cool ones not yet released too) and gave me one of their 16 Ounce Glass Bottles with Cafe Cap and Silicone Insulating Sleeve.

First the cap. With a quick press of your thumb it opens and closes easily and it forms a tight seal (more on that later).

The cap has a wide opening and liquid first pours into the cap, allowing hot beverages to cool a bit. The lid also has a handle that rotates down for drinking and storage.

Unlike many drink containers on the market, this one is glass. To a drink purist, glass is king. It does not pass on any taste to the beverage and there is no worry about chemicals leaching into the drink.

The silicone sleeve, meant to stay on the bottle even through washing, both protects the bottle and protects your hand. Yup. I’ll test that out. Holding onto the silicone is much easier than the glass. All components of this bottle are top rack dishwasher safe.

First, the heat. I heated up some water well past drinking temperature and let the glass get too hot to touch. Holding on to the bottle with the silicone certainly protected my hand from getting burned. The glass was very hot but the silicon, while it warmed up some, was a nice protector.

Next came the spill test. I filled it with water, sealed the top and laid it on the paper towel for 20 minutes. Not a drop came through.

After a preliminary drop onto my marble countertop was successful, I decided to give it the big test. You know, if you have glass, you may worry about dropping it and having it break. So, I filled it up, went outside and from a height of four feet, I did just that.

It landed on the bottom and even bounced a bit before stopping a couple of feet away. No breakage. No  spillage.

The only damage was to the letters telling me not to microwave. No deal at all.

My Take: I like it. I like drinking from glass but have never thought to take a glass drinking container on the road with me, but with the 16 Ounce Glass Bottles with Cafe Cap and Silicone Insulating Sleeve, I will. I will also have confidence that if I drop it, no problem. If I put something hot inside, I won’t get burned. Available in a variety of colors, you can purchase yours here.
