Product Review: eau good!

The Ranting Reviewer does not get paid or receive any revenue from manufacturers or retailers of products reviewed. I occasionally receive products that I am asked to use and see what I think. I take a look, try them out and tell you all about them.

I recently attended the International Home and Housewares show in Chicago and had an opportunity to see some great products from black + blum.

One of the products they provided to me to review was eau good!.

eau good! is a water bottle that allows you to filter normal tap water to produce great tasting water. Included in the package is the bottle and a charcoal stick. Charcoal? Think of what is in the filter for the water that might feed into your refrigerator or pitcher. That filter is filled with a special charcoal. eau good! includes Japanese binchotan charcoal to make your tap water taste the way it should.

The lock-tight cap easily prevents any leakage.

Open up the charcoal and drop it in. Notice the bump in the side of the bottle? The charcoal is will almost stick in there, but not quite.

Give the bottle a gentle squeeze and the charcoal locks into place. Turn the bottle upside down and it won’t come out.

Fill the bottle with water and let the filtering begin. Most filters have only a brief contact with water. By having the charcoal in the water, it remains in contact with the water and allows it to work for a much longer period of time.

I ran a taste test with my wife. One glass contained tap water. My wife picked that one out very quickly. Another was from a bottle of purified water. She noted an aftertaste. The third was from the door in my refrigerated (filtered) and the fourth was from eau good!. She thought the last two tasted the best and could not tell a difference.

This method of filtering is a lot easier to carry around than that refrigerator and the whole thing was a lot cheaper than the refrigerator filter replacement!

My Take: eau good! is an inventive way to provide great tasting water from the tap and to take that water on the go. The sticks of charcoal will filter for three months. Simply pop out the stick and boil it in water for a handful of minutes and it is good for another three months. Additional sticks can be purchased from black + blum. eau good! is well designed, looks like glass but is really a durable plastic and will allow you to stop buying so many disposable bottles of water. Available in a variety of accent colors, you can purchase it here.
