Cooking = Calories

When does sitting on your butt watching TV cause you to gain less weight than actually doing something? As it turns out, watching cooking shows is not a predictor of weight gain. What does, however, is actually cooking the food you see from those cooking shows.

In a recent study, it has been determined that us cooks, the ones that actually get into the kitchen, gain more weight than those that just watch food shows. Why? Well, take a look at many of those recipes.

First, you have to look at all the desert shows. Cake Boss. Cupcake Wars. All sugar. Paula Deen? She is the queen of butter and there are few of her recipes that come in at a low-calorie rating. When you stop to think of it, many dishes, while delicious, are full of calories.

Roasted Potatoes with Sage

Ingredients:

2 pounds halved small red potatoes
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons kosher salt
pepper
1/2 cup sage

Directions:

Preheat a baking sheet in a 425 degrees F oven. Toss 2 pounds halved small red potatoes with 2 tablespoons olive oil and 2 teaspoons kosher salt; season with pepper. Brush the baking sheet with olive oil; sprinkle with 1/2 cup sage. Add the potatoes, cut-side down. Roast 20 minutes; season with salt.

    Potatoes might just be the greatest thing mother nature has ever produced. I mean, you can do so many things with them, and they’re actually quite healthy too!
    I learned a potato pancake recipe in High School years ago, and it’s still the most delicious thing ever!
