Top 100 Characters

Five years ago, Entertainment Weekly came up with the 100 Greatest Pop Culture Characters of the last 20 years. As much of my adult life was within that 20 year span, it really hit home with me. Here is the top 10:

10 – SpongeBob SquarePants – I might have been just a bit old for him, but appreciated his sense of humor.

9 – Carrie Bradshaw (Sex and the City) – Yeah…not a show I watched.

8 – Hannibal Lecter (Silence of the Lambs) – Truly one of the scariest characters ever created.

7 – Edward Scissorhands – I must be one of the few that just didn’t like this movie. I am pretty sure the character wouldn’t be in my top 100.

6 – Rachel Green (Friends) – While the character wasn’t a stand-out from the others, I loved the show and am willing to have the Jennifer Aniston played character be a proxy for the whole cast.

5 – The Joker (The Dark Night) – Heath Ledger’s performance could not have been more perfect.

4 – Tony Soprano (The Sopranos) – One of my top 10 television shows.

3 – Buffy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) – Haven’t seen it but on my list to binge watch someday.

2 – Harry Potter (Harry Potter series) – The biggest character to hit kid lit for a very long time.

1 – Homer Simpson (The Simpsons) – As I channel my inner Homer every day, I have to agree with his placement.

Take a look at the whole list here.

While not deep-fried, I’m sure Homer would approve of this meal.
