You know Dasher and Dancer
And Prancer and Vixen,
Comet and Cupid
and Donner and Blitzen.
But do you recall….
The most famous reindeer of all….
(if he was the most famous, why do we have to be reminded of him)
It is likely that the names of Santa’s reindeer were first named in the poem commonly known as The Night Before Christmas. The original names of the last two reindeer (Rudolph had yet to make his appearance) were Dunder and Blixem.
Later Blixem was changed to Blitzen (German for lightning) and Dunder was changed to its meteorological counterpart Donner (thunder). Learn all about it here.
Chocolate Blitzen
Months before last Christmas, the Ranting Wife found this recipe and said she wanted it Christmas Eve. What am I to do but comply? They were pretty darn good and really chocolatey.
