The Ranting Chef does not get paid or receive any revenue from manufactures or retailers of products reviewed. I occasionally receive products that I am asked to use and see what I think. I take a look, try them out and tell you all about them.
I was happy to come home the other day to an envelope for The Ranting Chef.
Inside the envelope were boxes of Food Huggers.
These silicone covers come nested for easy storage. There are the round ones and avocado shaped ones.
All spread out. The round ones come in four sizes from small onion to large pepper. The avocado comes in two sizes.
My first test was with a granny smith apple. I needed one half for a recipe, so had the other half left over.
It is easy to slip the apple inside the edge and the way it is designed, it truly does hug the food. This keeps the air out. No wonder they are called Food Huggers.
You can see how it wraps on.
This apple was sliced a week ago and put into the Food Huggers. It was a tad drier than when it was first cut but still flavorful and much juicier than it otherwise would have been if left without the Food Huggers.
They work for onions.
Onions of all colors.
This slides right in.
The avocado here also is a week of being in the Food Huggers. It has a little browning on the surface, but without the Food Huggers it would be rotten. I was able to use this avocado in some guacamole and it tasted great.
My Take: The Food Huggers are the real deal. They are inexpensive, easy to store and dishwasher safe, so they are easy to clean. They take the place of a bulky Tupperware bowl and are much better for the environment than using the endless supply of plastic bags. They keep fruits and vegetables fresh and keep the odors (of items like onions) from spreading throughout the fridge. You can find the Food Huggers by clicking on the name and follow the link.
OK, those are REALLY cool!
