The Ranting Chef does not get paid or receive any revenue from manufactures or retailers of products reviewed. I occasionally receive products that I am asked to use and see what I think. I take a look, try them out and tell you all about them.
Recently, I was able to cover the 2014 International Home and Housewares show in Chicago as a media representative from the blogging community. While there I was able to spend some time at a number of booths and see some really interesting products. This product was being displayed at the show.
A long, flat box. What could it contain?
Inside was the Gripper Flex Board from Architec Products. The Gripper Flex at its base is a cutting board, but it brings quite a bit of technology to bear to go beyond the basics.
First off, this is a sizable board. It is 12×16, so has ample room for everything you cut up.
The bottom of the board has this gripping technology. I have a number of cutting boards and when I am doing some heavy duty chopping, they will occasionally move on the counter. Not this board – it’s not sliding anywhere.
Here is where things really get cool. This board flexes. While the top of the board is a flat surface, the bottom has groves in it that allows it to curl. So after you’re done chopping, when you want to get the food into a pot, pan or bowl, you can easily create a funnel shape and it slides right in. Architec has found the right design to allow it to flex without creating problems with the top surface.
Strawberries into the narrow top of a blender? No problem.
How about these diced baby potatoes? Plenty of room to dice them on the board.
And easy to put into the baking dish.
My take: I have  a few requirements for a cutting board. The first is that the surface is smooth and does not get easily cut up. It needs to be easy to clean. It needs to fit easily in my kitchen and it can’t move around when I have a sharp knife moving in my hands. The Architec Gripper Flex Board is meets those requirements and more. It is cut resistant, dishwasher safe and sits solidly on the counter.  In addition to all of that, the handles and the ability to flex make this board stand above the rest. An added bonus, for me, it is scarlet and grey (the colors of my beloved Buckeyes!). The board also comes in green/turquoise and white/grey. You can find the Gripper Flex Board online and at stores like Bed, Bath and Beyond.
When a rogue vegetable bounces onto the floor I sort of day dream about a product just like this! Good review.

I’ve never seen a flexible cutting board before! It looks very useful. It looks like the grooves are only on the underside of the board – is it completely smooth on top?

I might have to go get one if the price is right.

Want! I have a series of cutting boards which have either a gripping bottom, are bendable and are dishwasher safe. None are all three. Genius. Want, want, want!
