Beans and slaw.
What do you want with your barbecue? Beans and slaw. While I am tempted to try the potato (baked, fried, etc…) and the corn looks great, when I am faced with the eternal choice for my two sides at a barbecue restaurant (never three and rarely one), it is beans and slaw. Not the green beans, although I do like them, the BAKED beans.
Some places really don’t do the beans justice. You can open a can, throw it into a pot and serve it and it will be OK. If you really take just a few extra steps, you can make them great. I do take the easy route and start with a can. The Ranting Wife made these recently and I was on hand to take a few pictures.
Just a few additives.
The beans and Worcester.
Onions and yellow mustard. We’ve tried others and even tried the mustard powder. Nothing works as good as plain old yellow mustard.
Bacon and brown sugar.
Bake them. What a concept!!! Actually baking baked beans.

I agree about beans, never been a slaw fan myself, though.
Beans from a can with no additions are so boring!
It’s like saying “I didn’t even try” when I see them being served.

Baked beans are my fav if they’re done properly… but like you say, to many people don’t actually bake them. You can’t make that baked flavour on the stove or in the microwave.
