The Ranting Chef does not get paid or receive any revenue from manufactures or retailers of products reviewed. I occasionally receive products that I am asked to use and see what I think. I take a look, try them out and tell you all about them.
The other day I received this in the mail. I’m hoping they rushed it out to me so fast, Chef never made it to the envelope!
What I found inside…
were two No Mess Pot Clips from Trudeau Corp. What are they?
Well they clip on to your pots and pans to hold your utensils.
The clip is a butterfly clip that easily fits on any pot or pan that I tried. The part that touches your pot or pan is silicone, so you don’t have to worry about scratching.
This is the typical resting place for my utensils while I cook. It sits on my counter and is probably the most washed item in the house.
It is a rare day that it is not used.
I will often have several things going at once and as my wife doesn’t want to litter the counter with multiple spoon rests, this is what typically happens. The counter is my utensil rest for all additional utensils.
And it takes a beating.
The option of leaving the utensil in the pan is not a good one. I found this out the hard way.
So I was very happy to try out the clip. The spoon balanced easily in the clip.
The spoon remains elevated over the pan’s surface allowing it to drip down into the pan.
MY TAKE: I like it. It is very easy to use and putting in and taking out the utensil is a breeze. It also keeps the utensil with the pot or pan when you have a lot going on, so you can easily grab it. If you are using a lid with your dish, this is not the best choice (even if you clip it to a handle), but for those pots or pans that don’t need to be covered, it is a good option. I will use it regularly from now on.
You can find the clip at shopTrudeau.com. Take a look at this and their other products.
And the best part, is I’m giving one away to a random subscriber. Remember, to be eligible to win in a future giveaway (and I’ve got some good things!), you must subscribe. I’ve once again used a random number generator and found that number of subscriber on the list and the winner is:

whoa, those look dangerous
Apr 20, 2012 @ 11:05:43
Those look excellent! One of those things it’s hard to believe wasn’t invented sooner, and I’m disappointed I didn’t think of. Thanks!
Apr 20, 2012 @ 11:13:25
Those are cute, but I don’t think I’d use them. Something else to get lost in my kitchen gadgets drawer
Apr 20, 2012 @ 11:14:04
I think it is great. When my husband and daughter help me cook, they are always mixing up the spoons for the pots I’m using. This would let them know which spoon to use in which pot, and it would keep my counters cleaner. I have a 3-slot spoon rest, and they still lay the utensils on the counter…lol. Great review, great product!
Apr 20, 2012 @ 11:14:05
I think these clips would be great for “Bouquets Garnis” no? I always tie mine to the handles of the pot, but I think this is a great idea!
Apr 20, 2012 @ 11:15:27
This looks like one of those things I would give to my daughter but just be too lazy to use on a regular basis.
Apr 20, 2012 @ 11:20:24
Very cool gadget & I’m glad I’m not the only one with 1 spoon rest and a bunch of utensils dripping on the counter.
Apr 20, 2012 @ 11:22:36
Just what the doctor ordered! At least what the husband ordered due to the need for new spoons and wear and tear of cookware. I have a cute spoon rest that sits sadly neglected on the stove top. The countertop gets the brunt of the stirring debris. Live this idea!

I love this for multiple pots on the stove…The messiest spoon usually gets the elite spot on the spoon rest while the others might get to sit on an empty pasta box or something!
Apr 20, 2012 @ 11:32:25
Interesting. Where do we get them?
Apr 20, 2012 @ 12:40:37
You can find them at http://www.shoptrudeau.com/No-Mess-2pc-Utensil-Pot-Clips-p/999018.htm
Apr 20, 2012 @ 12:53:27
Thank you!
Apr 20, 2012 @ 11:33:37
Where could one purchase on of these? We are fulltime rvers and have almost no counter space!

Apr 20, 2012 @ 11:39:16
Does it interfere with using a lid on your pot?
Apr 20, 2012 @ 12:41:05
Yes. If you have a dish where you are using a lid, this is not the best choice.
Apr 20, 2012 @ 11:43:02
I definitely need one of those!
Apr 20, 2012 @ 11:46:35
I see one small problem with them. They won’t work if you need to use a lid for anything. I cook a lot of things that need simmer time. Those won’t work as well for me.
Apr 20, 2012 @ 11:49:18
I have one and never use it. It goes into the donation box when I come across it in the gadget drawer next. You can’t use a lid with it. It takes up more space than it is useful, in my opinion.
Apr 20, 2012 @ 12:14:54
Nice review
I like all the photos.
Apr 20, 2012 @ 12:17:35
Brilliant! I absolutely despise spoon rests!
Apr 20, 2012 @ 12:43:14
I should get these. In my tiny little kitchen (please picture what the kitchen of a 250 square foot Manhattan studio looks like), I have so little counter space that I literally can barely fit a spoon rest.
Apr 20, 2012 @ 12:48:02
Hey, I recognize those tongs, have a pair just like them here. That said, kudos on your all plastic tools around non-stick. I’ve given up on most non-stick as someone in this house loves to use metal utensils on non-stick. So go with standard pans, and get them hot enough and you don’t worry about sticking.
Apr 20, 2012 @ 12:54:56
If it were completely up to me, I would go that route. As the spouse also cooks, the non-stick is here to stay.
Apr 20, 2012 @ 13:40:54
Understood. What I do is there is one hard, fast rule without non-stick. Once a pan is emptied it gets filled with hot water. That way the stickums come up.
Apr 20, 2012 @ 13:19:01
these are pretty neat
Apr 20, 2012 @ 13:28:54
Nice product review, looks like it would work…although my OCD prevents me from putting a dirty spoon on a rest or the counter, I usually have a cup of water or rinse off my utensil between stirring. I’m one of those clean as you go kinda cooks.
Apr 20, 2012 @ 13:44:20
Me thinks that if you saw the kitchen after I was done cooking you’d fall into a catatonic state!
Apr 20, 2012 @ 13:33:47
Thank you! I’ve been wondering if they work at all!!!
Apr 20, 2012 @ 13:41:58
Great review! Looks like it could work for all pots. I like that.
Apr 20, 2012 @ 14:16:08
What a handy gadget! Wouldn’t it be great at serve yourself buffet lunches and dinners too? No mixing up the serving spoons. Love it! Thanks for sharing.
Apr 20, 2012 @ 15:08:21
Hmmmm, interesting! I was just wondering if you found that the utensil handles got too hot? That would be my only concern . . .
Apr 20, 2012 @ 15:34:43
I generally use silicone utensils and they didn’t get hot at all. I used a pair of metal tongs and did not notice the heat either (over boiling then simmering water).
Apr 20, 2012 @ 15:10:18
Looks pretty cool, but only like you say if you don’t use a lid.
Apr 20, 2012 @ 15:21:56
i NEED this. looking forward to keeping up with your blog. Very interesting posts/products…thanks for liking my post!
Apr 20, 2012 @ 16:00:58
LOVE this idea. I’m constantly smearing goop all over my kitchen counters.
Oh and I am insanely jealous that you get freebies to try
Apr 20, 2012 @ 16:05:32
great idea! THanks for sharing!
Apr 20, 2012 @ 16:09:32
These look great! My kitchen’s not very big yet I always manage to put down a spoon and lose it
I’ll have to look out for them.
Apr 20, 2012 @ 16:31:17
Wow. Just genius.A must have!
Apr 20, 2012 @ 17:10:38
How funny!!
Apr 20, 2012 @ 17:38:29
I like Trudeau products – have a few kicking around the kitchen. Love that it holds tongs – they have become my go-to utensil of late! Will save the stains on my counter – have a couple that may never come out!
Apr 20, 2012 @ 18:47:47
Interesting dodad.
Apr 20, 2012 @ 18:49:07
simply clever, thnx
Apr 20, 2012 @ 21:52:58
Genius!
Apr 20, 2012 @ 22:32:19
… How have I not heard of this? My poor counters actually get a lot of spoons because I seem to not be able to just do one thing at a time, and I am weird about using one spoon in one dish, than not another.
I think I shall look into this. Let’s see if I can convince the husband. *wink* Thanks for the heads up!
Apr 21, 2012 @ 08:54:52
That yukky spoon rest looks familiar! I think I’ve seen it at my house. :-/ These are great!! I do believe I need them!
Apr 21, 2012 @ 20:02:05
Interesting gadgets. I like that ladle holder…sure would prevent making a mess on the counter or table….
Apr 23, 2012 @ 07:14:20
i liked the pan clips, i want to have one.. hihihihi
Apr 23, 2012 @ 11:08:30
Thanks, I just figured out what to get my dad for Father’s Day. He’s a gadget junkie.
Apr 25, 2012 @ 20:36:02
This looks super helpful… but it looks like you have electric burners? I worry that with my gas (and I refuse to live anywhere without a gas stove top)… the excess heat that crawls up the side of the pot makes these a burn waiting to happen! I wonder if the manufacturers have had any issues/complaints with that? Have you tried them on a gas stove top?
Apr 25, 2012 @ 20:39:56
True, I used them with an electric cooktop. The silicone, I expect, would remain cool ev if the metal heated up, so I bet they are still usable over gas.

Interesting^^
